Finding a Domestic Relocation Staffing Agency: What to Look For

May 12, 2026

When evaluating a domestic relocation staffing agency, most HR leaders focus on price. That is the wrong starting point. The right starting point is: what does the retention data actually look like for workers they have placed? Everything else follows from that.

What to Ask Any Domestic Relocation Staffing Agency

The first question is whether all workers are 100% E-Verified. There is no acceptable answer other than yes. A domestic relocation staffing agency that cannot confirm 100% E-Verify compliance on every placement is not worth engaging regardless of price.

The second question is what the upfront cost structure looks like. A legitimate domestic relocation staffing model has no mobilization fee, no retainer, and no deposit. You pay for hours worked. If an agency requires upfront fees before workers start, that is a red flag.

The third question is who manages the housing. The answer should be the agency. A housing stipend that workers manage themselves is not a relocation program. Furnished temporary housing arranged near the facility, provided for the first 90 days, is what distinguishes programs that produce retention from programs that don’t.

The fourth question is what the documented 12-month retention rate is for workers they have actually placed. Ask for data. The industry average for locally-sourced temporary workers in manufacturing is around 40% at 12 months. A serious domestic relocation staffing agency should be delivering retention significantly above that threshold.

What to Avoid

Avoid agencies that call themselves domestic relocation staffing providers but operate primarily as local staffing agencies with a relocation stipend added. The distinction matters. True domestic relocation staffing sources workers from national labor pools in high-unemployment regions, manages the complete relocation process, and has infrastructure for community integration. A check and a handshake is not that.
